Hammer mills essentially consist of a steel drum containing a vertical or horizontal rotating shaft on which hammers are mounted. The hammers swing freely at the ends of the cross, or are fixed to the central rotor. The rotor rotates at high speed inside the drum while the material is fed into a hopper. The material is impacted by the hammers and thus shredded and discharged through the separation sieves separated by size.
